Morning BlossomsDesign by Nell Corns © March 2001 |

This design is very simple to tat and create, and consists of only the two patterns below: the flower and stem w/leaves. All flower joins are made at the picots to the other flowers, and also at the picots on the leaves to the flowers. You should be able to duplicate my designs above fairly easily by following the picture, but use your imagination and come up with your own version of “Morning Blossoms.” Have fun!!
Flower: (Wind one shuttle only):
Rings (7 in all):
7 - 3 - 3 - 7 close;
7 + 3 - 3 - 7 close (join to 3rd picot prev ring);
7 + 3 - 3 - 7 close (join to 3rd picot prev ring);
7 + 3 - 3 - 7 close (join to 3rd picot prev ring);
7 + 3 - 3 - 7 close (join to 3rd picot prev ring);
7 + 3 - 3 - 7 close (join to 3rd picot prev ring);
7 + 3 - 3 + 7 close (1st join to 3rd picot prev ring; 2nd join to 1st picot of ring one to close motif).
Stem/Leaves:
(Wind two shuttles-- continuous thread method):
Shuttle 1: R4 - 4 - 4 close;
Chain: 3 ds;
Shuttle 2: R 6 - 6 close;
Chain: 3 ds *
*(Continue alternating 2 picot ring and 1 picot ring leaves as desired for length of stems. By switching back and forth between shuttle one and shuttle two after each chain, you will see how the two-sided leaves form.
I do not turn my work when I tat, but instead I start my chains with the second half of the ds to create an all one-sided effect to the tatting.
Your chain length can also be made longer by simply increasing the number of double stitches between the leaves (as I have done at the bottom of the stems).
