Basic Tatted Earrings

Each earring requires 1 meter of thread, 2 pearl beads and 32 seed beads. This is a one shuttle only pattern. Many variations of this pattern can be made by varying the length of beads on the long picot that hangs and the type of beads used. Use your imagination and have fun with it.

For the version diagramed, load beads on thread in this order:
3 seed beads, 1 larger round pearl, 10 seed beads, 1 larger round pearl and 19 seed beads.

1st Ring: move 25 beads into place on thread around hand for ring (23 seed beads and 2 pearls). 4 ds, p of 3 seed beads, 1 pearl, 10 seed beads, 1 pearl and 7 seed beads, 2 ds, p of 3 seed beads, 3 ds, small p, 3 ds, close ring.

2nd Ring: move 6 beads into place on thread around hand for ring. 3 ds, join to small picot of previous ring, 2 ds, p of 3 seed beads, 2 ds, large p for handing earring on wire, 2 ds, p of 3 seed beads, 2 ds, small p, 3 ds, close ring.

3rd Ring: move 3 beads into place on thread around hand for ring. 3 ds, join to small picot of previous ring, 3 ds, p of 3 seed beads, 2 ds, join to long picot of beads on 1st ring between the 7th and 8th bead. (Twist the bead string to the right, make a down join, and the picot of beads will lie flat.) Finish ring with 4 ds and close ring. Cut, tie and hide thread ends. I usually spray the earrings with Scotch Guard and let them dry well.
